Exciting May chapter news

Hello St. Louis Chapter!
I'm excited to share of the great things we have going on in our chapter this month, read below.

  • I’m very pleased to report that our nomination of Walter Metcalf for Honorary Membership in ASLA was approved during the mid-year ASLA meetings. Mr. Metcalf joins a very small and but impressive list of Honorary Members in our Chapter that includes Gyo Obata (HOK), Peter Raven (MoBOT) and Leo Drey (Conservationist & Open Space Council founder). Honorary Membership in the Society is one of the highest honors the organization confers. I spoke with Mr. Metcalf to share the good news and he was very pleased to be selected. We are currently planning an event for to recognize Mr. Metcalf in September. Stay tuned for details.

  • Tick..Tock..Tick..Tock.. Time is running out to “Like” your favorite “Designed by a Landscape Architect” photos. Log in to the St. Louis Chapter ASLA Facebook Page and vote before it’s too late. Voting ends on Friday, May 15th.

  • Don’t forget to sign up for Paddle for a Cause the Open Space Council float trip on the beautiful Courtois, Huzzah, and Meramec Rivers to raise funds for this year's Operation Clean Stream!  This family-friendly float trip is approximately 3 hours long.  A delicious picnic dinner and outdoor games will follow the float. Early bird registration is available until May 15, 2015 and tickets may be purchased for $55/adult and $15/youth (age 15 and under). Tickets purchased after May 15, 2015 are $60/person for adults and $20/youth (plus service fee if purchased online.) • May is National Bike Month. To celebrate we are organizing an Allied Professional Bike Ride on the Katy Trail State Park for May 24th. The St. Louis AIA, APA and ASCE have been invited to participate. See the flyer for more details.

  • Finally, if you had an opportunity to “Get the Word Out” about landscape architecture during WLAM by speaking with students, elected officials or community leaders let us know about it so we can recognize your efforts for the profession.
