Adaptive re-use of a previously neglected, abused and unwanted landscape,
Vegetative management and rejuvenation of a neglected site, and
Conserving a "Sense of Place" in the context of developing a rural factory within an agrarian garden landscape.
You will learn:
Organizing a re-use project:
- Identifying site elements that should be preserved
- Identifying site elements that require remedial steps
- Preparing a short and long term plan for enhancements
- Implementing enhancements
- Remaining flexible
Vegetative management, without herbicides:
- Identifying existing invasives and pursuing their control and removal
- identifying returning native wildflowers and prairie plants and protecting their development
- identifying and adding native and ornamental plants that can hold their own locally
Conserving a "Sense of Place" in a rural landscape:
- the distinction between rural landscapes and industrial landscapes
- preserving and building vernacular, local rural buildings instead of industrial buildings
- developing and maintaining an entry that enhances and complements its locale
- efforts to organize locals residents against possible industrial invasion
