2018 Mid-Year Chapter Presidents Council Report


Advocacy Day

Trustees and Chapter President’s in attendance at the mid-year Chapter Presidents Countil (CPC) and Board of Trustees (BOT) meeting advocated for the profession of landscape architecture on Capitol Hill. Derek Don (St Louis Chapter president-Elect), Cory Murner (St Louis Chapter president), Scott Emmelkamp (St Louis Chapter Trustee), and Chris Cline (Prairie Gateway Chapter President) and visited with Sen. Claire McCaskill, Sen. Roy Blunt, Representative Clay, and Representative Wagner’s office. This year, we asked our representatives to support the Living Shorelines Act, the Water Infrastructure Flexibility Act, and the Environmental Justice Act.


Chapter Presidents Council – Day One

The first day of Chapter Presidents Council (CPC) meetings included presentations on national membership trends, results of the membership satisfaction survey, joint chapter conferences best practices, LACES continuing education, and Fellowship nominations. CPC members also participated in two workshops focusing on building the value membership and chapter communications. After a two year drought, the Board of Trustees defeated the Chapter Presidents in the Annual Kickball Tournament 3 to 0. Although, the CPC plans to file a formal complaint regarding collusion between the BOT and umpires. Finally, the day wrapped up with a social event at the Center for Landscape Architecture which included an informal tour of the facility and new courtyard.


Chapter Presidents Council – Day Two

The last day of Chapter Presidents Council (CPC) meetings included presentations from president elect candidates David Cutter, ASLA and Wendy Miller, FASLA and Diversity Training. The final hours of the CPC meeting included an open forum to discuss an array of topics, best practices, and lesions learned from each chapter. Upon conclusion of the meeting, President Murner and President Elect-Don took a little time to practice sustainability and tour the national mall in style.
